Julie, Sam, Thomas and James moved from Nelson Bay (Australia) to China in April 2008 with the challenges of medical care for orphaned children in central China, teaching village doctors and learning an entirely new language.
We also help out with the orphan camps run by Bring Me Hope (check out bringmehope.org - would love to see you there) each Chinese summer.
We are a very ordinary family, who have been granted an extraordinary (G*d-given) opportunity to go to another culture and care for those with the least opportunities, yet with greatest potential.
Thomas (10) and James (8) will have the benefits of Distance Education, and 'life education' while living here, making new friends and learning a totally new way of life.
Maggie (4) came into our home in 2008, and in early 2011 was officially adopted into our family. She is such a joy and a delight to us - her medical and developmental progess is something to behold.
Since 2009, we have begun a program called Elim Kids - an HIV community care program providing homes for HIV+ affected children (orphaned and in families), medical care and education to the community.
So far, having survived elections in Nepal, a typhoon in Hong Kong, 2 earthquakes in China, and countless lots of airline food, we think that someone bigger than ourselves wants us here, for a purpose - how awesome to be part of the larger plan!!
Would love to hear from you - post something on our blog or just reply to one of our updates.
